There is a HUGE amount of conflicting information out there about weight loss. So let’s explain a few things:

What slows down your metabolism?
We call them METABOLIC ROAD BLOCKS. They include:
Insulin Resistance – results in high Insulin levels which cause weight gain and inhibit fat-burning hormones
Stress – ongoing stress promotes hormones such as Cortisol which inhibit fat burning and lead to muscle breakdown and increased fat stores.
Allergies – food and environmental allergens will affect the immune, digestive and hormone systems, thus limiting weight loss and promoting fat storage.
Toxicity – an overloaded liver will be inefficient in several of its functions, including fat burning, promoting good digestion and removing fat-promoting hormones.
Nutritional factors – to maintain a healthy metabolism, you must have adequate levels of B vitamins, magnesium, zinc, essential fatty acids and thyroid nutrients such as iodine and selenium.
Hormones – typically, people with weight issues may have a basic hormone imbalance. The major hormones involved in weight loss or gain are thyroid hormones, adrenal hormones, insulin, oestrogen and progesterone. For weight loss to be effective and LONG-TERM, we need to address the balance between all of these hormones.
Biochemical imbalances -many people have ‘glitches’ or weaknesses in their energy production and fat-burning processes in the body. They may also have nutrient or amino acid deficiencies which reduce their ability to metabolise and transport fats. The result is a slower metabolism and weight gain.
